During the 2023 edition of the Latin Code Week program, more than 120 students had the opportunity to actively participate. This program, a result of the collaboration between SAP and Junior Achievement, aims to inspire young people and provide them with opportunities in the field of technology and STEM careers. Likewise, it seeks to promote continuity in school learning, enhance future skills, and provide tools to develop projects with social impact.
In Colombia, the program took place over four in-person sessions, each lasting two hours, during the months of July and August 2023. With the participation of seven volunteers, the session content covered topics such as Design Thinking for idea generation, business model development, prototype construction, and pitch preparation.
During the event, students formed teams to compete and develop a prototype application related to energy efficiency, with the aim of representing Colombia in the Regional Challenge, a competition among the nine participating Latin American countries.
The winning team, composed of Manuel Santiago Lozada Jaime, David José Sierra Ariza, Diego Alejandro Linares Cárdenas, Manuela Alejandra García Bustamante, Sebastián Urrego Linares, Estefanía Cuervo Rodríguez, Isabella Torres Moreno, and María Alejandra Méndez Perdomo, created "ENERGET," a virtual and interactive game that, through fun and learning, teaches people how wind energy works by creating a windmill that contributes to planet care. This team was chosen as the winner of Latin Code Week through social media voting and pitch of the year.
Colombia stood out as the winning team in the most innovative solution category, thanks to the effort and commitment of our students. We also want to recognize the contribution of Daniel Felipe González, Julieta Villalba, Miguel Ángel Bermúdez, Beimar Octavio Viuche Téllez, José Miguel Pedro, Marysabel del Milagro Montoya Gutiérrez, and Nathalia Real Bustos, who played fundamental roles as volunteers in the development of this activity.
